Moments with God, May 2
John 3:16 (NIV) [Jesus said,] 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Carol and I have been married 42 years. Not a day passes where my wife does not tell me numerous times how much she loves me. I never leave the house or go to sleep without telling her how much I love her. Each day our love for each other grows because each day our relationships with Jesus grow. Thus, we go everywhere together, and we always hold hands. I have some health issues lately, which has resulted in several doctors’ visits. I need my wife to go with me. I could go by myself, but I need her. I need her not because of anything that she does or says; I need her because I love her, and she loves me.
Several weeks ago, a good friend stated that he was tempting not to come to church that morning. He changed his mind when the Lord told him, “I need you.” That touched my heart as the reality of that statement hit me. Jesus needs each one of us. He needs us not because of what we can do for Him but because He loves us so much that He gave His life for us. Yes, He does want us to be His hands and feet to touch others, but His love comes first. Just as I need Carol because of my love for her, so Jesus needs and wants us. He loves us unconditionally. That truth amazes me as I have a difficult time comprehending that, but I do not have to understand; I need to believe and accept. Often, I seek Jesus because I need Him to heal me, protect me, counsel me, teach me, etc. Nevertheless, we should seek Jesus first because we love Him and need to be with the One we love. In the same way, Jesus wants to be with us because He loves each one of us. He needs me. He needs you.
